An ode to Black Sheep Wools

I’m not sure many people will get this. But there’s a song that I *love* by Robbie Williams and everytime I listen to it I have my yarn shop version that I came up with about a year ago, I can’t actually sing the proper lyrics anymore.

I told my yarn shop version to Gruncle Chris and he said it was pretty good. So I’ve decided to share it with you.

The song that it ‘goes’ to is Good Doctor but I will warn you it’s Nsfw and has swearing in so not infront of the kids!!

My version goes…

I went to the yarn shop to get a good fix in,
I told them little fact, and lots of fiction,
About a project that I ain’t got,
Tried to sell me a cross stitch kit, I think not!
I want Rowan, Sublime, Rico Cotton.
Funky ring them up, so I can knot them.
I’ve got all these wips and I can’t stop em,
To tell you the truth shop, I might have a problem!!

That’s it.
Doesn’t look as impressive as it sounds in my head, but I want to thank The Black Sheep Craft Barn in Culcheth for being the place where I started singing this to myself.
Now whenever the song plays on my ipod it makes me want to crochet!

A bit all over the place!

Evening!
I can’t seem to settle on a project to work on. Which isn’t good!
I currently have unfinished ~
Attic24 birdies.
Frayed knots’ perfect cowl.
A Red Heart Manhattan cardigan
The spiral blanket (pattern by colourinasimplelife.blogspot.co.uk)
Frayed Knots’ Ocean Wave blanket.
The babylegs I’ve been trying to come up with a pattern for so a baby wearing friend can try them out.
A Htr little blanket for a friend who’s currently collecting them for her local neonatal unit.
A Rainbow block blanket I started last year for my mum.
The ripple I started making when mj was still a bump.
A little pink pram blanket that was for a fundraising auction. (But the person it’s for has got another blanket request in and as they’re going overseas I’ll post them together)
A playin hooky strata beanie that I started making for little H. (Then put down to make something else!)
A granny square snuggly magic blanket that I started making as a present for a friends little girl (& will be making a matching one for her twin sister)

There’s probably at least one thing that is missing from that list.

Just seeing it all written out like that makes me frown disapprovingly at myself!

Last night when I sat down after dinner to watch some Tv (we’ve just started watching the walking dead season 1) and an hours worth of crochet before bed. I knew had a voice in my head shouting at me to finish *something* (anything!!!) But the other bit of my brain is going meh! So I started something else.

I really need to take myself aside and have a word!!

Anyway.  Here’s a picture for you…

It’s an Attic24 granny stripe blanket. Being made in sirdar snuggly babycotton dk. And as you can see I’m not using a knitpro hook! (Shockinh, I know!) The cotton was a bit too grippy on the knitpro so I’m giving my tulip etimo rose a whirl!
I like, no love the smoothness of it. And the soft grip bit is nice I do wish the shaft (insert immature smirk here) was a bit longer! (Ok another smirk!) And I do like using cottons. I loved rico’s creative cotton aran that I used for someones ripple blanket once.

Anyway,  I’ve rambled. (Sorry!)

My plan over the next couple of weeks is to finish up some of my UFO’s (unfinished objects) I’m going to start small. So probably the cowl first as I only need to do the flower and attatch it, and sew a couple of ends in. Then I’ll decide what to finish next. The blanket for the neonatal unit will get done gradually because that’s my current “do when the boys nap after I’ve done housework” project because it’s all from one ball of yarn so easy to grab!

If you’re reading this in a few days and I haven’t updated please give me a nudge.  I need to do some before it starts to feel daunting!!

Right.  I think I’ve rambled enough!

A little wave :)

In my attempt to blog more instead of just posting pics on Facebook I’ve discovered the wordpress android app. So, here I am offering a bitesize entry of what’s been on my hook today.

It’s my current “pick up, put down” project for when I get ten minutes to just crochet. Mostly I’ve been doing it in the day when the boys have their morning nap. Little H has his nap on the sofa so any project that requires intense concentration or having scissors/sewing needles out is a no go. He goes from fast asleep to Grabby McGraberson before you even realise he’s awake!

Pattern : Ocean Waves Blanket.
Pattern Author : frayedknot
Pattern is available on craftsy, ravelry & etsy. (She’s on Facebook too)

I’m on my second attempt of it. The first time I did the first few rows in the midnight blue and when I changed to the red I realised somehow I’d dropped 2 stitches so I frogged it and decided it was more sensible to do the first couple of rows in a colour where I could see the stitches!

I’m using Rico Baby So Soft and I love it! I know I say that about every yarn I write about, but if I didn’t love how squishy they were then I wouldn’t buy them! But as an acrylic goes its beautifully soft and I haven’t had any trouble with splitting or managing to stick my hook through the middle if the strand! I got mine from Black Sheep Wools. If you’re on the look out for a new yarn to try and are willing to take the word of an internet blogger do try it!

Right time for sleep but just one last picture… MJ & I going yarn shopping :D

Tweeeeet

I can’t sleep so I’ve just set up a twitter account, linked it to my blog, so now no one can read it or see my tweets :p

I had a message today from a friend asking for a basic idea for how to do a kindle cover and I was gutted that I haven’t finished the one that I’m halfway through, therefore haven’t even started writing out the pattern, or seeing if it’s readable, or if people would even like how the case turns out!

I’ve got abit of a “thing” for using double crochets to join things together instead of sewing, I think it can look prettier and depending on how I want it to look either show off the top of the DC or have it show the underside of the stitch so that it looks like I’ve sewn it. I’ll have to take pictures to show you!

Tonights crocheting didn’t really happen. Little H is still out of sorts and then once I got him into bed I couldn’t settle mj but I did manage to sew some ends in, but remembered toretake pictures first, there’s something satisfying about seeing all of the yarn ends waiting to be sewn in, knowing you did all that. Although I normally get a feeling of dread at the same time, sewing all those ends in just doesn’t hold my attention, I feel myself itching to start on the next bit/something new!

Tomorrow I’m hoping to do a full picture update from the laptop thus avoiding awful iPad autocorrects!

Oh & my twitter is @CCrochetMama. What’s yours? X

Woolyness

Right, so I wasn’t going to do two posts today.. but Mr. Me will be off work for the next few nights so I probably won’t be on the laptop in the evenings (hopefully we’ll be off to the Trafford Centre on Saturday night yay!)

So once I put Little H to bed I got out my “downstairs stash” not a rude stash, but the wool that is currently living in a box next to the sofa downstairs. & I wanted to do a run through what I have, and what I’m hoping to do, and hopefully in a few months I’ll actually have done some of what I have in my head right now!

First.. the most expensive wool that I have brought “for myself” Sirdar Snuggly Smiley Stripes

Photobucket
I normally only buy the more expensive stuff when I’m making for other people as new baby presents. I’m really hoping it works when crocheted, I’m not 100% what I want to do with it yet, but I’m thinking maybe Attic24 Granny Stripe. Will have to see if it works!
Then my “bargain” that I just can’t resist picking up when I see it. BlackSheepWools have had it in-store for £1.50 a ball (off the top of my head) but its not listed on their website. Its Rowan Luxury Cotton DK, and it makes me smile.
Photobucket
I think that I will turn it into a Hexagon blanket, I’m sure thats what was going through my head when I picked the first few balls up, and I’ve added a few more since then! I just love how it looks and feels. I just hope I can do it justice!!

Now.. the wool I forgot that I had. Its so snuggly! Rico Baby DK

Photobucket

Its so yummy and soft. I’ve made a 2 coloured Attic24 Ripple Blanket out of this, and I’ve just finished another blanket in this wool too and they’re the softest snuggliest blankets ever. I picked these 4 balls up at the same time as I picked up the wool for the blanket I’ve just finished and only re-discovered them whilst on this photo taking mission.

Next my mixed bundle of acrylics which is what is being used for my neonatal blankets…

Photobucket

There’s 4ply in there that was given to me by one of my mums friends who had bags of wool from when her mum passed away and she gave loads to me (literally 2 bin bags full) and the 4ply out of that is in amongst this. Sounds silly but I figured that the lady would like to know that her wool had been passed on and was being used for good. (I just hope she likes them if she’s watching how they turn out!) The DK that is in there is stuff that I’ve picked up at the local market just stuff that I’ve liked how it feels. There’s something re-assuring about me working with acrylic wool, if I mess up I don’t feel so bad!

And finally, the 2 balls of wool that made me smile.
Photobucket
These were brought for me by my brother and his girlfriend for my birthday earlier this month, they were so chuffed with their purchase. I didn’t have the heart to tell them that you don’t have to go to John Lewis to buy nice wool. But I have great plans for these 2 little balls. Hopefully I will manage to turn them into a wee hat for baby #2 who is currently cooking away in my tummy! I just need to feel brave and do it!

& yes, that is a white plastic bag I have used as my backdrop.

You can buy yarn, but you just can’t buy class!! =P
